CEO of Telegram Pavel Durov announced that he holds a certain amount of Bitcoin and a ‘small amount’ of Toncoin (TON).
Following the announcement, the token’s price rose by several percent.
Durov also admitted that he bought about a quarter of Telegram’s recently issued bonds worth $270 million — ‘in addition to the tens of millions’ that he has spent over the past decade to keep the messaging service running.
“Some people have said that I should have bought a house or a plane. But I prefer to stay focused on my work, without owning anything (except Telegram, a small amount of Bitcoin and Toncoin),” the entrepreneur wrote.
Pavel Durov added that Telegram’s audience is replenished by 2.5 million new users every day. The total number of the latest surpasses 800 million.
The Telegram founder bought about 2000 BTC roughly 10 years ago at a price of $750. He admitted this in 2017.
Earlier, the Telegram team promised to develop non-custodial wallets and decentralized applications, including DEX.
