PayPal to Introduce Payment Feature via ChatGPT

Payment giant PayPal will integrate the Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP) and OpenAI’s Instant Checkout feature, enabling users to make purchases through ChatGPT.

ACP is an open standard that allows merchants to list their products in AI applications, enabling users to make purchases through agents.

Launched in September, the Instant Checkout feature allows users to confirm orders, delivery, and payment without leaving ChatGPT.

Customers will be able to use their PayPal wallets at checkout. The company emphasized that this will ensure protection for both buyers and sellers, along with a dispute resolution system.

The firm will provide technology for processing card payments within ChatGPT using a separate payment API.

Next year, merchants using PayPal products will be able to list their goods on ChatGPT. Initially, the service will support categories such as clothing, fashion, cosmetics, home goods, and electronics. The company will handle payment routing and processing.

Additionally, the firm is launching an agent commerce platform, allowing merchants to present their catalogs in AI-based applications, accept payments across various AI solutions, and receive analytics on customer behavior.

Alongside this, PayPal will provide its employees with corporate access to ChatGPT and allow developers to use OpenAI programming tools like Codex.

Earlier in October, Coinbase launched the Payments MCP system, enabling language models like Anthropic’s Claude and Google’s Gemini to access crypto wallets, fiat gateways, and payments.
