Peter Thiel Reaffirms Commitment to Bitcoin

PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel confirmed on CNBC that he holds the leading cryptocurrency, though he expressed doubts about a significant price increase for the asset.

“I still have some [bitcoins]. I didn’t buy as much as I should have,” he noted.

However, Thiel is not sure “that it will continue to rise so sharply.”

At the time of writing, the leading cryptocurrency is trading near $61,000. Over the past 24 hours, it has fallen by 0.9%, according to CoinGecko.

The PayPal co-founder expressed regrets over insufficient investments in digital gold back in 2021. He has long been a proponent of cryptocurrencies, having stated in 2017 that people underestimate Bitcoin’s potential.

The venture firm founded by the billionaire, Founders Fund, invests in businesses related to digital assets. Previously, it supported Paxos, the NFT platform Royal, and the decentralized autonomous organization BitDAO.

In January 2023, it was revealed that the venture company liquidated its position in the leading cryptocurrency, earning $1.8 billion. The sales reportedly occurred as the market declined, with the majority taking place in March 2022.

In February 2024, Reuters sources reported investments by Founders Fund in the first and second cryptocurrencies. According to their data, the amount was $200 million.

In June, the author of the bestseller “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” and entrepreneur Robert Kiyosaki predicted Bitcoin’s rise to $300,000 by August 25. According to him, digital gold is the easiest path to becoming a millionaire.
