
Peter Thiel’s Valar Ventures leads Bitpanda’s $170 million Series B.
The European cryptocurrency brokerage Bitpanda announced the completion of its Series B funding round, which raised $170 million.

The round was led by Valar Ventures, the fund owned by PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel. Partners from the investment firm DST Global also joined.
The company said that over six months they increased the user base from 1.3 million to 2 million, and the team to 340 people. According to Bitpanda, the firm became Austria’s first unicorn with a valuation of $1.2 billion.
Earlier in September, Bitpanda raised $52 million in a Series A funding round. It was also led by Valar Ventures, and the funds were used to expand the staff and develop new products.
