Polkadot raises $43.6 million in private token sale

The non-profit Web3 Foundation, behind the Polkadot project, conducted another private sale of DOT tokens, raising $43.6 million.

To the wallet used during the token sale, 3,982 BTC were sent over three days, according to BitInfoCharts. Based on the number of incoming transactions, 1,059 investors participated.

Among the transfers are large contributions of 713 BTC (~$7.8 million), 479 BTC (~$5.2 million) and 154 BTC (~$1.68 million). Meanwhile, the majority of transactions were well below 1 BTC. The token sale was conducted in the form of a standard auction with a starting price of $125.

DOT’s market value reached a one-month high on the second day of the sale, July 26, rising to around $181. As of now, quotes have fallen to $165, according to CoinGecko.

Plans for the token sale and its details were reported by the media late last week. Payments were accepted only in Bitcoin, and for sums above 10 BTC investors were required to contact the project team directly.

Last week, a vote by the network validators also took place, by which the community backed a 100-fold redenomination of DOT.
