Poll: Nearly one in five Australians own cryptocurrencies.

More than 90% of Australians have heard of at least one cryptocurrency, and about 20% of residents have invested in digital assets. The data come from the survey conducted by the cryptocurrency exchange Independent Reserve.

The share of Australians aware of at least one cryptocurrency reached 91.4%. The figure was up 90% year on year.

The most well-known digital asset in the country is Bitcoin — named by 88.8% of respondents. In terms of popularity it far outpaces Ethereum and Bitcoin Cash.

Awareness of Bitcoin is the same for men and women, but men are three times more likely than women to have heard of other cryptocurrencies.

The survey showed that in the 18-24 age group, 14.4% of respondents were aware of the DeFi token Chainlink, but on average 7.8% had heard of it.

Among Australians who own cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin is the most popular — 74% have invested in it. Following are Ripple (XRP) and Ethereum (ETH) with shares of 28% and 27% respectively.
