Polygon unveils zero-knowledge proof-based identity service
The Polygon project has launched an identification service that authenticates users while preserving the privacy of sensitive data.
This is a big one: We are announcing Polygon ID, the first ZK-based self-sovereign identity.
Polygon aims to become the de facto platform for Web3 development, and self-sovereign identity protocol is certainly one of the necessary components of this vision.
Exciting times. 🦄💫 https://t.co/BekfnfgiF1

We announce the launch of Polygon ID, the first sovereign identity system based on zero-knowledge proofs. Polygon aims to become the de facto platform for Web3 development, wrote Polygon co-founder Mihailo Bjelic.
The platform uses iden3 — a decentralized zero-knowledge proof-based identity protocol. This technology enables verification of data that remains encrypted and hidden from the verifying party.
Developers say Polygon ID is a new step in the evolution of on-chain authentication, as the solution eliminates the need to rely on centralized intermediary services.
Polygon is one of the largest blockchain ecosystems. The platform hosts over over 7,000 decentralized applications.
In February, the project attracted $450 million from Sequoia Capital India with participation from more than 40 venture investors.
