Putin: Russia will create its own framework to regulate the Internet

Russia will not follow foreign schemes for regulating the internet and protecting personal data, and will create its own, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin said at the forum “Russia Is Calling!”

He noted that the field of personal-data protection is “extremely important” because it relates to human rights:

“People have the right to defend themselves and their families from abuses in this area.”

According to him, Russian authorities will act “very carefully so that this sphere is not frozen and allows the development of all sectors, but so that citizens feel protected.”

“I will not speak about final decisions right now. But we are certainly not going to introduce prohibitive measures that would negate the very idea,” Putin concluded.

Earlier at the forum the head of the Bank of Russia, Elvira Nabiullina said about the potential benefits of implementing the digital ruble and stated that it could affect banks’ business models.
