On August 20 in Amsterdam there will be a rally in support of arrested Tornado Cash developer Alexey Pertsev, who was arrested last week in the Netherlands.
Authorities suspect him of involvement in laundering funds and concealing illicit financial flows through the service.
According to the initiative group, the arrest of Pertsev creates a dangerous precedent for holding open-source software developers accountable in cases of misuse of these products.
“The developer has no control over how his open-source code will be used in the future. Therefore, accusations against Alexey Pertsev threaten to kill the entire segment of such software,” they wrote.
The rally will begin at 16:00 at Dam Square. Additional information can be found in Telegram group.
As a reminder, on August 8 OFAC added the Tornado Cash to the sanctions list on suspicion of laundering over $7 billion in cryptocurrencies.
Members of the Tornado DAO decentralized autonomous organization urged the community to hire a team of lawyers to legally challenge the service’s blocking.
Subsequently, Coin Center, a crypto-industry–focused rights group, said it intends to challenge the U.S.-imposed restrictions.
