Ray Kurzweil Predicts Human-AI Merger in the 2040s
In the 2040s, humans will merge with AI to form a super-being, cease to suffer from illnesses, and extend their lifespan. This perspective was shared by futurist and former Google researcher Ray Kurzweil.
He has published a book titled The Singularity Is Nearer: When We Merge with AI, where he discusses the concept of singularity.
Traditionally, singularity refers to the point when AI reaches the level of artificial general intelligence (AGI) and can reason at or beyond human level. This milestone will be reached in 2029, according to the expert.
In this context, AGI is any machine capable of performing tasks better than an average human given the necessary resources.
Meanwhile, Kurzweil believes that singularity is actually the scenario where humans and AI merge to become a super-being. This will occur in the 2040s, leading to a significant increase in lifespan and the end of diseases.
Some experts express concerns about reaching singularity, as it could allegedly lead to the extinction of humanity. Scenarios are being considered where AI stops obeying humans, refuses to follow orders, and begins to act independently.
Earlier, the head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis, noted that AI will achieve singularity in the future. He called for an end to the use of technology in warfare.
Previously, CEO of the decentralized AI network SingularityNET, Ben Goertzel, discussed how artificial intelligence is bringing humanity closer to a transhumanist future.
