Report: 73% of institutions expect mass adoption of cryptocurrencies

79.6% of retail and 72.6% of institutional investors are confident in the broad adoption of digital assets over the next decade. The results come from Bitstamp’s survey.

In March 2022, analysts surveyed 5,502 institutional and 23,113 retail investors from 23 countries across all regions of the world.

“Crypto is a long-term game. We need to prepare for the next 50–100 million customers. The industry must build the infrastructure that will support this next wave of investors.”, said in an interview with Blockworks CEO Bitstamp US, Robert Zagotta.

Around 70% of respondents in both categories express trust in digital assets. The share is higher among those who have gained the greatest knowledge on the subject. Regionally, such respondents are more common in developing countries such as Nigeria, Argentina, Brazil and South Africa.

In terms of trust, cryptocurrencies surpassed derivatives and were only slightly behind equities, bonds, and real estate.

68% of institutions advise clients to diversify their portfolios with this new asset class, 15.2% do so with certain caveats.

72% of institutional and 73.1% of retail investors plan to expand their investments in the segment over the next five years.

Among the barriers, those in the first category cited excessive volatility and insufficient regulation; in the second, a lack of necessary knowledge, high risks, and uncertainty about choosing a reliable trading platform.
