Report: staking yielded $20 billion for crypto investors in 2020

During 2020, crypto investors earned more than $20 billion from validating transactions on Proof-of-Stake (PoS) blockchains. Decrypt cited data from a report by the investment startup Staked.

Staking participants earned an average annual yield of 11.2% on funds staked.

The highest staking yields are offered by NuCypher, Secret Network and Livepeer — over 30%. The lowest is Keep Network (3.4%).

The largest PoS projects by market capitalisation are Ethereum 2.0 with a 12.4% stake, Polkadot (13.8%) and Solana (26.1%).

PoS-based systems account for 25 of the 100 largest cryptocurrency networks by market capitalisation. The total market value of the projects exceeded $175 billion in 2020.
