Ridley Scott Embraces AI’s Potential in Filmmaking

The 86-year-old director Ridley Scott, known for films such as “Gladiator,” “Alien,” and “Blade Runner,” has revised his stance on AI. He shared his new perspective in an interview with The New York Times.

Scott now sees AI as a means to reduce production costs and unlock new creative possibilities in animation.

“You can accomplish in a week what would take 10 people 10 weeks,” Scott remarked.

According to the director, AI will not aid in creating new jobs, except for high-level specialists. People will need to retrain to find employment, which is challenging for the average person.

In 2023, Scott likened artificial intelligence to a weapon of mass destruction, calling it a technological hydrogen bomb.

In May 2024, writer and director Paul Trillo showcased a music video entirely generated by OpenAI’s Sora AI.

In October, Nicolas Cage urged young actors to resist pressure from employers and to fight against the use of AI and EBDR for altering or manipulating their performances.

AI became the main cause of the strike declared in July by video game voice actors and motion capture specialists in Hollywood.
