Russia to develop standards for artificial intelligence

Over the next four years, Russia will adopt more than 200 standards in the field of artificial intelligence. This was stated by Rosstandart head Anton Shalaev, according to ТАСС.

According to him, at the end of last year the agencies announced plans to develop a number of GOST standards by 2024 that will regulate the safety of using the technology.

Shalaev added that to date eight standards in the field of AI have already been adopted.

«By the end of this year, another line of GOSTs for applying AI technologies in healthcare, clinical medicine, will appear. In total, in the field of artificial intelligence, 217 standards should be developed over four years», he said.

Shalaev stressed that this is not about translations of foreign practices, but about developing unique rules with no analogues worldwide.

He said that Rosstandart has already adopted ten GOSTs in the field of the Industrial Internet of Things and a number of norms in the area of big data management. Shalaev also hopes that by the end of this year the agency will develop the first standards for digital twins of production.

Earlier in June, Russia’s Ministry of Transport drafted a bill that would permit the operation of autonomous vehicles on public roads.

In late April, the Russian Defense Ministry announced its intention to create AI governance within the ministry.

In April, the Association of Lawyers of Russia proposed that state structures regulate the use of algorithms in the country.
