Some Russian banks have begun testing digital ruble transactions or are actively preparing for its launch, TASS reports.
Promsvyazbank has already been piloting C2C payments. After that, the technical testing of C2V-, B2C- and B2B-payments will begin, said Maxim Khrustalev, adviser to the bank’s deputy chairman.
“Tinkoff Bank” plans to begin testing the asset soon, while VTB said its infrastructure is ready for a pilot.
“The pilot includes integration with the digital ruble platform and the introduction of services such as opening a personal wallet via a mobile app and transfers of the digital ruble between individuals,” said VTB.
In the first pilot group for testing the digital ruble 12 banks joined.
In December, the Bank of Russia stated that the prototype of the platform for the new asset is ready. The digital ruble, as the third form of money, is planned to be launched by 2030.
