In Perm Krai, a court restricted access to resources, advertising the sale of Bitcoin for fiat currency. The decision was issued under the framework of compliance with anti-money laundering laws.
According to the local prosecutor’s office, since the beginning of 2021 they have filed five lawsuits seeking the blocking of prohibited information.
“The legislation views the exchange of virtual currencies as potential involvement in carrying out dubious operations and transactions,” the agency said.
The list of sites that attracted the prosecutor’s attention is not provided. It is known that one of the suits concerns a YouTube video describing methods of exchanging Bitcoin for rubles.
The court granted the claim. After the decision enters into force, access to this information will be blocked.
As a reminder, Russian courts have repeatedly placed sites on the list of banned resources for disseminating information about the possibility of buying Bitcoin and paying for certain goods with it.
Since 2017 Roskomnadzor has filed several lawsuits seeking inclusion in the register of cryptocurrency exchange aggregators Bestchange.ru. The last time the blockade lifted December 22, 2020.
In early December of the same year, a court in Arkhangelsk ordered to block the service’s mirror Bestchange.net for information about counterfeit money.
From January 1, 2021 a law “On Digital Financial Assets” took effect in the Russian Federation. It recognises cryptocurrencies as property and prohibits using them to pay for goods and services within the country.
