Russian court overturns Binance’s inclusion in the register of banned websites

On 20 January, Arkhangelsk Regional Court overturned the ruling to block the Binance cryptocurrency exchange’s website on Russian territory.

The court’s decision means the exchange’s site can continue operating in Russia once removed from the register of banned internet resources.

As ForkLog reported, the site had been under threat of blocking since September 2020. At that time the company received a Roskomnadzor notification about the need to remove from the site information about Bitcoin, deemed illegal by the court.

The initial decision to place the site in the register was issued by the Mirny District Court of Arkhangelsk Oblast. Binance was not notified of the start of proceedings regarding the site’s blocking.

Experts say the court’s decision to block Binance was legally unfounded.
