Russian human rights ombudswoman asks French justice minister to intervene in Vinnik case
The Russian human rights ombudswoman Tatiana Moskalkova has appealed to French Justice Minister Éric Dupond-Moretti to change the precautionary measure against Alexander Vinnik, who is accused in France of money laundering and extortion, according to RIA Novosti.
\n
Guided by the principles of humanity and mercy, I ask you, esteemed Dupond-Moretti, to arrange possible assistance in changing the precautionary measure against Vinnik to one not involving deprivation of liberty, — the publication quotes Moskalkova’s statement.
\n
The Russian embassy in France is prepared to provide Vinnik with a flat open to monitoring by French authorities if necessary.
\n
Moskalkova stressed that during detention in Greece and France Vinnik lost more than 30% of his weight, as he repeatedly went on hunger strikes.
\n
The ombudswoman also asked that consideration be given to extraditing the suspect to Russia.
\n
Before the main hearings began in October, the French court left Vinnik in custody.
