Russian man duped in attempt to buy a mining rig to heat his garage

An Irkutsk Oblast resident fell victim to criminals attempting to purchase cryptocurrency mining equipment. According to МВД.

He intended to use the equipment not only for mining digital assets but also to heat his garage.

\n

The victim contacted a resident of Omsk who allegedly was selling miners via a messaging group. The latter provided photos of the invoice and the goods, with logos of the delivery service in the background.

\n

After the victim transferred 45,000 rubles, the chat in the messenger was deleted, and the ‘seller’ ceased to respond. According to the МВД, the invoice was fake, and the tracking number did not exist.

\n

Authorities have opened a criminal case into fraud.

\n

Earlier in Saint Petersburg, due to mining equipment, an office building caught fire.
