Russian Prosecutor-General proposes incorporating cryptocurrencies into criminal law
The head of the Russian Prosecutor-General’s Office, Igor Krasnov, said that digital currencies should be included in criminal legislation to facilitate investigations into theft of such assets and to enable arrests. The statement was reported by TASS.
According to Krasnov, the number of crimes involving virtual assets has risen:
“In this regard, in my view, their inclusion in criminal and criminal-procedural legislation is required in order to recognize them as objects of encroachment and to impose restrictive measures on digital currencies.”
Earlier, the Prosecutor-General’s Office proposed to treat cryptocurrencies as property for criminal proceedings under the Criminal Code.
Krasnov said his department has prepared norms that will allow recognizing digital assets as the subject of crime and confiscating them.
