Russian woman loses 1.1 million rubles to ‘cryptocurrency trading’ scam
A 49-year-old woman from the Kursk region lost more than one million rubles on a fraudulent site that purported to be involved in cryptocurrency trading, according to the local police.
The victim filled out an online form, after which a so-called ‘analyst’ called and proposed transferring a large sum to someone else’s card.
Then the scammers extorted a further 188,000 rubles allegedly “to complete the deal”. Later, under the pretext of withdrawing the initial funds, they persuaded the victim to pay some “tax”.
In total, the Russian woman transferred 1.1 million rubles to the fake brokers but did not receive any payout in return.
The police have opened a case for fraud and are identifying the perpetrators.
