Russia's State Duma backs in the first reading a ban on using digital financial assets (DFAs) as a means of payment

Members of Russia’s State Duma одобрили in the first reading a bill proposing to ban the use of digital financial assets (DFAs) as a means of payment within the Russian Federation.

The document introduced to the State Duma last week by Anatoly Aksakov, head of the Committee on the Financial Market.

The bill aims to mitigate the risks of using DFAs as a monetary surrogate.

The DFA law took effect on 1 January 2021.

In May, the State Duma supported in the first reading a bill on taxation of operations with such assets. ForkLog lawyers emphasized that the document does not affect cryptocurrencies.
