Sam Bankman-Fried refuses to plead guilty; trial set for October

The founder of the now-defunct cryptocurrency exchange FTX, Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), refused to plead guilty to eight counts. According to Bloomberg.

Appointed in late December, US District Judge Lewis Kaplan set the trial date — October 2, 2023.

The prosecution proposed an additional bail condition for SBF in the form of a ban on access to and transfers of FTX and Alameda Research assets.

Bloomberg noted that the refusal to plead guilty would allow Bankman-Fried to obtain more information about the evidence against him and plan his next move.

Earlier, Reuters reported that SBF will plead guilty to charges of defrauding investors and misappropriating client funds. WSJ sources ruled out such a possibility.

Earlier, on December 13 Bankman-Fried was arrested in the Bahamas. He was later extradited to the United States, where released on bail in the amount of $250 million.
