SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce: Market Ready for Bitcoin ETP Launch

U.S. capital markets are ready for the launch of a Bitcoin-based exchange-traded product (ETP), said SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce in an interview with CoinDesk.

“Investors are eager to trade bitcoin ETPs. If we do not provide a natural path for this, they will start seeking other, less optimal options,” she said.

During the discussion, Peirce questioned the extent of Bitcoin’s threat in the context of financing terrorism. She argued that there is no way to completely ban the first cryptocurrency.

The SEC commissioner admitted that she looks forward to working with the candidate for the regulator’s chair Gary Gensler. His nomination will soon be considered by the Senate.

Earlier, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen pledged to monitor the crypto market closely. She intends to curb the use of digital currencies for illicit purposes.
