Seed Phrases in YouTube Comments: Analysts Uncover New Scam

Fraudsters are posting cryptocurrency wallet addresses and their seed phrases in YouTube comments as part of a new scam to steal funds. This was reported by analysts at Kaspersky Lab.

They discovered these messages under videos related to finance. Posing as inexperienced users, the scammers request help with cryptocurrency transfers and provide links to wallets with private keys. These addresses typically contain large sums to lure potential thieves.

In one instance, a wallet balance exceeded 8000 USDT, but withdrawing the cryptocurrency required a fee in TRX. This amount was sent to a fraudulent multi-signature wallet, which requires multiple approvals for outgoing transactions. Thus, even after sending their own funds, the dishonest user could not steal the assets.

Analysts did not disclose the number of potential victims or the financial damage caused by the new scheme.

Previously, many popular cryptocurrency wallets were threatened due to the public release of the macOS Stealer Trojan code, which steals assets.
