Seychelles regulator says Huobi had no license, then deletes post

The Huobi cryptocurrency exchange did not obtain a license to operate in the Seychelles. This is stated in a предупреждении from the Seychelles Financial Services Authority (FSA).

The regulator pointed to a link between Huobi Global Limited and the Seychelles-based Huobi Global. This информация is published on the trading platform’s site, which also has ссылки to local legislation.

«The aforementioned company does not have an FSA license to operate such activities. Consequently, the organisation is not regulated by the FSA and was not regulated in the past», — the statement says.

The authorities urged investors to exercise caution regarding Huobi’s services.

The company clarified the situation with regulator’s warning on Twitter.

«Huobi Global Limited is a Seychelles-registered company within the Huobi Group. It provides services to global customers under applicable laws. We have proper status with the FSA and are in close contact with them to clarify. It is our understanding that the alert will be revoked soon.»

The warning on the regulator’s site at the above link no longer opens; the browser returns a 404 (page not found).

In 2018 the platform received a DLT license in Gibraltar. In December 2020 the authorities of the American state of Nevada allowed a subsidiary of Huobi to provide trust services.

In February 2020, Malta’s financial regulator said that the Bitcoin exchange Binance did not have a license to operate in the jurisdiction.
