Sind High Court orders Pakistan’s government to regulate cryptocurrencies

The Sind High Court has directed the government to form within three months a committee to draft a regulatory framework for cryptocurrency regulation, according to The Express Tribune.

The assignment is given to the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan, the central bank, and the ministries of finance, justice, and information technology.

The publication noted that the decision was made following the consideration of a petition challenging the central bank’s 2018 ban on cryptocurrencies.

In December 2020, the National Assembly of Pakistan appealed for the passage of laws governing cryptocurrency ownership and Bitcoin mining.
