Sixteen residents of Irkutsk Oblast gave scammers 2.5 million rubles in bid to start mining

Several residents of Irkutsk Oblast fell victim to scammers who duped them when buying equipment for cryptocurrency mining or renting premises for farms. Local МВД reported this.

Over the past few days, 16 local residents contacted authorities with similar statements — all hoping to start mining. Some sought to purchase equipment, others to sign leases on premises for mining farms.

One of the victims transferred more than 250 000 rubles to the scammers for mining equipment, but the criminals ceased contacting him, and he never received the equipment.

In total, the victims lost more than 2.5 million rubles.

In Kaluga, authorities are seeking scammers who swindled 5 million rubles from a Russian citizen under the guise of cryptocurrency investments.
