In a decade, artificial intelligence will be 10,000 times smarter than humans, according to SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son, reports CNBC.
Before the advent of ‘artificial superintelligence’, a ‘general AI’—ten times smarter than humans—is expected within the next three to five years. SoftBank’s mission is to advance humanity’s progress in creating a superintelligence, Son noted.
“Until now, SoftBank Group has done many things that have been a warm-up for realizing my great dream of implementing artificial superintelligence,” he said.
According to the SoftBank chief, in the future, various AI models will interact with each other like neurons in the human brain.
Currently, the Japanese company is making every effort to integrate robotics with artificial intelligence for use in all types of mass production and logistics, as well as in autonomous driving.
Earlier, Bloomberg reported that SoftBank is seeking $100 billion to create a company that will complement its AI chip manufacturing unit, Arm Holdings. Son expects the products to be in demand for robots and powerful data processing servers, which collectively could cure cancer, clean homes, and play with children.
Arm Holdings held the status of a tech giant in the early 2010s when its semiconductors were purchased by the largest tech suppliers. Currently, a controlling stake is held by the SoftBank Group holding.
In December 2023, Arm Holdings CEO Rene Haas emphasized the importance of AI in the company’s future development. He expressed hope that within the next 5-10 years, Arm will be at the center of a “technological revolution,” as it was during the smartphone boom.
In February 2022, Nvidia abandoned its $40 billion acquisition of the chipmaker from SoftBank, paying the Japanese conglomerate $1.25 billion for the failed deal.
In June, OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever announced the creation of Safe Superintelligence, a company focused on developing ‘safe superintelligence’.
