Solana Foundation launches server-rental program for validators
The Solana Foundation, the nonprofit behind the Solana blockchain, has opened up the option for validators to run nodes on server hardware.
«The Server Program allows current and future Solana node operators to gain access to high-quality bare-metal servers without an operating system or other software, with flexible month-to-month contracts from data-center providers,» the statement said.
Potential renters must register in the program and complete the KYC process. After signing an agreement, they will gain access to the equipment.
The minimum rental period is one month, and the maximum number of servers per validator is limited to two.
Solana Foundation’s partners include data-center operators Equinix, Lumen and Stackpath. The foundation expects to expand their number in the coming months.
According to the statement, the organization does not profit from selling computing power by partners.
«This additional program is open to anyone who wants to help protect the network by running their own node,» said the Solana Foundation.
On 14 September 2021, a major outage affected the Solana mainnet, during which new blocks were not produced for more than 16 hours.
Full functionality of the blockchain was restored in less than a day after the restart. The developers cited DoS-атаку.
