Solana Team Releases Update to Address Network Congestion

Developers at Solana have updated their software in an effort to combat blockchain congestion, which has been causing transaction delays.

“The v1.17.31 release is now recommended for general use by MainnetBeta validators. This release contains enhancements which will help alleviate the ongoing congestion on the Solana Network,” the statement reads.

Rex Saint John from the Anza client team clarified that this is the “first round” of updates, with v1.18 to follow.

According to developer correspondence, testing of the release on the devnet is expected to begin on April 15. However, Saint John acknowledged there is no 100% guarantee of this.

Anza noted that the situational solution to the network congestion problem has caused delays in the implementation of v1.18.

About a week ago, the Solana team acknowledged that the blockchain faced a large number of failed transactions. Developers attributed this to a boom in meme tokens and a significant increase in trading volumes on DEX within the ecosystem.

They announced a series of measures “in the coming days” to help reduce network congestion.

“Please upgrade if overdue staking is less than 5%. Ensure you have time to monitor your nodes after the upgrade and report any issues to MB validators in Discord,” Anza noted.

Since the beginning of the year, Solana has accounted for 49.3% of global investor interest in blockchain ecosystems, according to CoinGecko.

Bernstein forecasts that the network “leads the battle” for on-chain payment adoption. Matty Taylor, co-founder of Colosseum and former head of growth at Solana Foundation, believes the blockchain will surpass Ethereum in the number of consumer Web3 applications.
