Solana’s Web3 Smartphone Saga Reaches 100,000 Pre-Orders
On February 12, pre-orders for Solana Mobile’s Web3 smartphone, Saga Chapter 2, reached 100,000 units, according to CoinDesk.
Previously, the company had set this milestone as a condition for developing the second device.
According to Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko, receiving $45 million from pre-orders suggests that the sales economics of the new smartphone are more viable than the first model.
Developers plan to create Saga 2 within a month. Delivery to customers is scheduled for early 2025.
“Launching the new line requires minimal costs,” noted Yakovenko.
Solana Mobile does not intend to compete on technical specifications with flagships from Apple or Google, instead focusing on specific features for cryptocurrency holders.
Yakovenko also added that 100,000 users constitute a critical mass to convince app developers to create games within the Solana ecosystem. A key advantage of their app store will be the absence of the 20-30% commission charged by Apple and Google.
Developers describe Chapter 2 as the successor to the first Saga version, introduced in June 2022. Specific features of the new model have not yet been disclosed, but the team has stated its goal to significantly “optimize Web3 functionality for smartphones.”
