Sony, the Japanese company behind the PlayStation video game consoles, has published a патентную заявку on NFT products that was filed in 2021.
According to the document, the corporation intends to create a standardised digital infrastructure that would allow players to own collectibles and transfer them between different gaming platforms.
The NFT goods include:
- skins;
- illustrations;
- avatars,
- weapons;
- in-game abilities.
The technology is expected to be connected to consoles from other manufacturers.
This is not the first patent from the tech giant related to non-fungible tokens. In November 2022, the company disclosed a заявку for registering a product that tracks assets in video games using blockchain technology and NFT.
The growing number of patents suggests that Sony is interested in developing the Web3-sector. However, executives previously noted that the company does not deal in NFTs.
Last year Grace Chen, the company’s vice president of online advertising, said in an интервью Washington Post that their loyalty programme is not connected to digital collectibles and does not use blockchain technology.
Back in July 2022, Epic Games Store boss Tim Sweeney said that the Epic Games Store does not plan to abandon NFT projects. In response to user criticism, the head noted that developers should have the ability to decide how to create their games.
