The Sotheby’s auction house has hired NFT specialist Brian Beccafico for its digital-art team.

Beccafico is a collector and is known on Twitter by the handle Arthemort. In an interview he said he had acquired works by Mike Winkelmann, known by the alias Beeple, Pak, Fewocious and XCOPY.
Representatives of the auction house, in comments to The Block, confirmed that the specialist had joined their team.
In spring 2021 Sotheby’s sold NFT CryptoPunk #7523, also known as COVID Alien, for 4,520 ETH ($11.8m at the time of the deal).
In September, the auction house sold a set of 107 NFTs from the Bored Ape Yacht Club collection by Yuga Labs for $24.4m. The final price significantly exceeded the high estimate, which had been $18m.
In February 2022, Sotheby’s announced a sale of a set of 104 non-fungible tokens from the CryptoPunks collection. However, the seller at the last moment withdrew the lot from the auction.
