SpaceX Moves Bitcoin for the First Time in Three Years

Elon Musk’s company SpaceX has transferred 1,308 BTC, valued at $152 million, to an unknown address. This information was shared by analysts at Arkham Intelligence

The firm has not commented on the reasons for the cryptocurrency transfer.

SpaceX last moved bitcoins in June 2022, analysts recalled. Between May 25 and June 10 of that year, the company sent a total of 17,314 BTC to Coinbase.

According to Arkham, at the time of writing, the aerospace manufacturer holds 6,977 BTC, worth approximately $825 million at the current rate. Another Musk firm, Tesla, owns 11,509 BTC valued at $1.36 billion.

In June, analysts noted that the billionaire’s companies hold digital gold worth $2 billion. The average purchase price was around $32,000.

“Musk’s companies have collectively earned nearly $1.5 billion in unrealized profits on bitcoins,” Arkham noted.

The transfer of the first cryptocurrency by SpaceX did not affect its price. According to CoinGecko, bitcoin has decreased by 0.7% in the last 24 hours. At the time of writing, the asset is trading at $118,081, according to TradingView.

Community Reactions

Some members of the cryptocurrency community speculated that SpaceX is preparing to sell bitcoins. This was not ruled out by analyst Quinten Francois.

Users doubted that the small volume would significantly impact the value of digital gold. Cryptocurrency expert Cam noted that the transfer of 1,308 BTC might simply be a technical movement of funds.

“The likelihood of preparing for a sale is minimal, and since no official statements have been made, it is most likely that the bitcoins were simply transferred to a new wallet,” he wrote.

Back in January 2024, Musk suggested the use of the first cryptocurrency as a currency on Mars.
