The streaming service Spotify has unveiled a beta version of its new AI Playlist feature, allowing users to create playlists based on prompts.
In addition to standard requests by genre or era, Spotify employs neural networks to craft a broader range of musical selections. Examples provided by the service include prompts like “indie-folk that hugs my brain” or “relaxing sounds to help me survive allergy season.”
Prompts can include locations, animals, movie characters, colors, or emojis. The company noted that the best playlists are created using prompts that combine genres, moods, artists, and time periods.
Once a playlist is created, users can adjust the result by sending commands like “less lively” or “more pop music.” There is also the option to remove disliked tracks from the generated selection.
To work with neural networks and machine learning, the company utilizes a range of third-party tools. The product is based on large language models that recognize user preferences, Spotify stated. The service applies its personalization technology, which includes listening history information.
Initially, the feature will be available to users in the UK and Australia.
Back in May 2023, Spotify removed thousands of AI-generated songs.
