Starbucks launches NFT-based loyalty program
The Starbucks coffee chain has launched a beta version of a loyalty program based on non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on the Polygon network. The partner also served as the Nifty Gateway marketplace.
The announced Web3-initiative Starbucks Odyssey is initially available to a limited group from the waitlist. Participants can earn NFTs in the Journey Stamp series by taking part in virtual journeys.

Users will also accrue Odyssey Points. They can use the assets acquired to access ‘immersive events in a world of coffee that they won’t get anywhere else,’ the company said.
“Starbucks has a history of using early technologies to bring innovations to customers and to make them convenient and accessible within the mainstream,” said Brady Brewer, the company’s vice president.
From January 2023, a broader circle of the network’s customers will begin to receive invitations to participate in Starbucks Odyssey.
Users will be able to trade the company’s NFTs on the Nifty Gateway platform. Starbucks announced for next year the option to purchase collectible tokens with fiat and the release of a special Limited-Edition Stamp.
Earlier the network began tracking coffee deliveries with a blockchain solution from Microsoft and started Bitcoin as payment in El Salvador after the legalisation of the country’s first cryptocurrency.
