STEPN app hit by a barrage of DDoS attacks

On June 5, the STEPN team said that over the course of a few hours M2E-app was subjected to multiple DDoS attacks.

“Server protection and recovery may take up to 12 hours. We recommend you take a short break during maintenance, otherwise workouts may be recorded incorrectly,” the developers wrote.

Built on the Solana and BNB Chain networks, the game lets players earn rewards in GST and GMT tokens for walking or running. To participate, users must purchase sneakers as NFTs.

“Our engineers are doing everything possible to fix the issues. We will inform you as soon as the restoration is complete,” the app team said.

As of writing, the developers had provided no further comments.

Despite the attack, the project’s governance token GMT rose more than 10% over the past 24 hours and was trading at around $1.05 (CoinGecko).

Data: CoinGecko.

The in-game currency GST on Solana rose to $0.66 — up 6.5% in the last 24 hours. On the BNB Chain blockchain the token was worth around $0.85.

As of June 15, STEPN will cease to service users from mainland China.
