
Syktyvkar miner stole electricity worth 5.5 million rubles
Law enforcement officials in the Komi Republic have charged a local resident with stealing electricity to mine cryptocurrency, the prosecutor’s office says.
According to investigators, in 2015 a businessman from Syktyvkar decided to take up mining and purchased more than 400 units of equipment. To power it, the defendant illegally connected to the electrical grids.
The total damage amounted to more than 5.5 million rubles.
The criminal case has been sent to court.
Authorities in North Ossetia detained miners on charges of electricity theft for a total of 2.6 million rubles.
