Taiwanese nationals arrested in Bangkok over cryptocurrency fraud scheme

Thai police have arrested six Taiwanese residents in Bangkok. Investigators say they duped more than 500 people in a cryptocurrency investment fraud scheme, according to Bangkok Post.

In addition, the detainees face charges of operating an exchange business without a license. Four of them were also charged with operating without the proper permit, a fifth with drug-related offences, and the sixth with an expired visa.

Two of the detainees were sought on arrest warrants issued in Taiwan.

During the raid, laptops and mobile phones were seized from the group.

Since 1 April 2022, Thai regulators have advised businesses to exclude accepting payments in digital assets.
