Telegram Restricts Crypto App Development to TON Network

On January 21, Telegram and TON Foundation announced an exclusive agreement mandating that integrated Web3 applications use only The Open Network. This was reported by Decrypt.

The partnership aims to maintain a scalable and secure user experience.

According to TON Foundation President Manuel Stotz, existing wallet protocols for third-party networks will be prohibited, except for applications with cross-chain functionality.

“Integrating TON as the exclusive blockchain for Telegram mini-apps is a strategic step forward, reinforcing TON’s status as one of the world’s leading blockchains,” he added.

Projects migrating to the TON network within 30 days will receive grants from TON Foundation of up to $50,000, depending on audience size. Bonuses do not apply to projects previously funded by the foundation.

In June 2024, Telegram launched its internal currency, Telegram Stars, for paying for digital services within the ecosystem. In November, the messenger introduced a major update for mini-apps.

Earlier, TON developers announced plans to expand operations in the United States.
