Tezos activates Lima upgrade

The Tezos blockchain platform activated the 12th iteration of the Lima protocol. ForkLog has been informed of this by project representatives.

The update boosted network throughput, introduced a new option for validators, and reduced the risk of errors in smart contracts.

Among the features implemented with the platform update:

  • further development of the “pipeline processing” technology for validators (bakers), which speeds up block and transaction confirmations by separating them by cost;
  • the introduction of the consensus key that bakers use to sign a block and perform consensus. In case of changes to the baker node settings they can simply swap the key, rather than their public address. This will prevent them from losing delegations due to the need to coordinate with them in such cases;
  • improved handling of Tickets — the data type for Tezos’ smart-contract language. Lima disallows creating and transferring Tickets with zero value, reducing the risk of errors in contracts.

The update also completed the technical groundwork for the second-layer scaling solution Smart Rollups. The L2 network is expected to provide throughput of up to 1 million TPS. A public capability test is planned for early 2023.

In June, Tether launched on Tezos the largest by market capitalization stablecoin USDT.
