The Bangkok police arrested a suspect in the robbery of a jewellery store worth around 1.8 million baht (more than $50,000). It is reported that he aimed to compensate for losses from bitcoin investments.
According to Thai PBS, the man stole gold jewellery, threatening with a pistol.
He told police that he was under considerable stress and urgently needed money after recently suffering substantial losses from bitcoin investments.
He was charged with armed robbery.
Earlier, Thai police detained six Taiwanese residents in Bangkok. According to investigators, they organised fraudulent scheme involving cryptocurrency investments.
