Thailand’s largest cinema chain begins accepting Bitcoin
Thailand’s Major Cineplex Group has launched a pilot project that will allow moviegoers to pay for tickets with cryptocurrency. Local media сообщают местные СМИ.
The cinema chain said the move was motivated by a desire to support innovative payment methods.
The project is being implemented with the participation of the local cryptocurrency exchange Zippex and payment company RapidZ. To use the service, the user must download the RapidZ mobile wallet, scan the QR code at the ticket vending machine and send bitcoins to the specified address.
From March 4, the system has been operating at the Major Cineplex Ratchayothin branch in Bangkok. By the end of 2021, the rollout would extend to all 39 cinemas in the network across Thailand.
Earlier in February, Thailand’s Tourism Authority announced plans to the deployment of digital assets in the sector to make the country attractive to foreign holders of cryptocurrency, primarily from Japan.
