
Trend Micro: Ransomware Becomes the Main Cybersecurity Threat in the First Half of 2021
Trend Micro researchers analyzed cybersecurity threats in the first half of 2021. The company’s representatives shared the findings with ForkLog.
Trend Micro said that its products blocked 40.9 billion email threats, malware files, and URLs in the first six months of 2021, nearly doubling the figures for the same period last year.
The main threat remains ransomware. The banking sector was particularly affected — the number of attacks using such malware grew by 1,318%.
According to the company, Russia accounted for almost 10% of all active ransomware programs in the European region.
Cryptominers have become the most frequently detected malware, the experts added.
According to July data from the Ransomwhere service, since the start of the year to addresses linked to ransomware more than $33 million in cryptocurrency has been received. As of writing, this figure составляет more than $44.5 million.
