The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Buryatia reported that two people were victims of criminals who lost a total of 3 million rubles in an attempt to profit from cryptocurrency trading.
A 44-year-old resident of Zaigraevsky District lost 1.4 million rubles, of which 1.1 million was borrowed.
“From the moment the fraudulent actions were committed until the day of reporting to the police, almost six months had passed. Throughout this time the victim believed that he was operating in the financial markets and was confident of earning a return,” the Ministry noted.
A resident of Severobaykalsk lost 1.6 million rubles in a month, which were also borrowed funds. She tried to profit from Bitcoin trading on an online “investment platform” she found on the internet, according to law enforcement.
Earlier reports indicated a victim of a similar scam from Khakassia. The victim lost more than 500,000 rubles.
