Ukraine’s Ministry of Digital Transformation and Ukroboronprom to advance artificial intelligence
The Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine and the state-owned conglomerate Ukroboronprom have signed a memorandum of intent to pool efforts to develop the digital economy, innovation and artificial intelligence in Ukraine.
The document provides for cooperation in the following directions:
- development of AI in the defense sector;
- creation of research and development projects in the field of artificial intelligence to ensure national security (R&D accelerators, training programmes and more).
According to словам of the head of the Ministry of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, the country’s success largely depends on its ability to utilise and amplify the AI potential.
“The government has already adopted our Concept for AI development and approved the plan for its implementation. Now, together with Ukroboronprom, we will implement AI in the defense sector,” he said.
Yuri Gusev, the CEO of Ukroboronprom, described the use of artificial intelligence as a key component of reform across the entire defence-industrial complex and the enterprise in particular.
“Defence ministries of leading countries are also examining the possibility of applying AI algorithms in the defence sector […]. Today these technologies are of interest to the defence sector both from the perspective of protecting their own cyberspace and from the perspective of creating innovative developments, weapons and state-of-the-art equipment,” he added.
Earlier in May, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the national AI development plan.
In June Ukrainian developers unveiled a combat stealth drone with artificial intelligence.
