Unknown hackers hacked India’s prime minister’s Twitter and declared Bitcoin legalization

Unknown hackers hacked the personal Twitter account of India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In his name they wrote that Bitcoin would be recognised as legal tender in the country.

“This matter has been referred to Twitter, and the account has been secured immediately. In the short period when the account was compromised, any tweet should be ignored,” the message said.

The fake post also claimed that India had bought 500 BTC and planned to distribute them among citizens.

The attackers attached a link to a fraudulent site allegedly for citizens to obtain their share of the Bitcoin. At the time of writing, the fake tweet had been removed.

Earlier in September 2020, the Indian prime minister’s Twitter was hacked. Unknown individuals then posted a fake appeal to transfer funds in cryptocurrency.

Prior to that, the accounts of Elon Musk, Bill Gates and other celebrities were subjected to a large-scale attack. In March 2021, the hacker Graham Clarke was sentenced to three years in prison, followed by a probation term.
