US Army CIO rebuts claim that China has won the AI race
US Army Chief Information Officer Raj Iyer refuted former Pentagon official Nicholas Chaillan’s claim that the United States has already lost the technological battle to China. This was reported by Breaking Defense.
Iyer pointed to the Pentagon’s “tight integration” with industry and “coalition partners” who “share intelligence and other data,” helping one another.
“I can tell you that they don’t have this. They operate in a vacuum and rely on despicable methods and cyberattacks to gain access to what they think we have,” the IT director said.
They are adept at applying AI technologies in practice, the IT chief added:
“They are adept at keeping people under control with AI. It is clear we are not doing this in the United States, but if you look at what we have in the Department of Defense, the intelligence community, the federal government and our industrial partners — we have the best AI technologies.”
Earlier, the former DoD software chief stated that China has won the race for artificial intelligence against the United States and is moving toward global domination thanks to its technological advances.
He said the United States would have no competitive edge over the PRC for the contest over the next 15–20 years.
In August, the Pentagon tested AI capable of predicting days ahead for competition with China and Russia.
In March the PRC published a five-year plan to accelerate the development of advanced technologies, including AI.
A week earlier, the US National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence published a report with recommendations for business and government on preserving technological dominance against China.
