
WhiteBIT buys CryptoPunk for $250,000
On 24 August, the cryptocurrency exchange WhiteBIT acquired NFT CryptoPunk #6390 for 74.5 ETH ($249,800). ForkLog reported this, citing representatives of the trading platform.
CryptoPunks is among the first NFT collections on the Ethereum blockchain. The Larva Labs team released 10,000 NFT images sized 24×24 in 2017. The popularity of pixelated punks led to the creation of the ERC-721 standard for non-fungible tokens.
“We support Visa’s interest in NFT, as we also see a future for this technology. In the near future, we plan to launch our own NFT marketplace in partnership with a major media holding,” he said.
Visa bought CryptoPunk #7610 on August 18. The company paid 49.5 ETH ($150,000) for the token. In a comment to The Block, Visa’s head of cryptocurrency Kai Sheffield called NFT technology the future of commerce and entertainment.
WhiteBIT is a cryptocurrency exchange with an Estonian licence. On WhiteBIT, there is spot, margin and P2P trading, as well as a DEX. The platform supports fiat pairs with regional currencies such as RUB, UAH, EUR and USD.
Earlier, Facebook announced the possibility of creating NFT-related products and services.
